美しい椅子の裏側には、必ずと言っていいほど「物語」があります。その物語は、工具、木の削りかす、そして情熱に満ちた工房から始まります。「Studio Spotlight」シリーズでは、Tim Designer が世界各地の工房やアトリエを訪ね、現代の家具づくりを革新する独立系クリエイターたちの素顔に迫ります。
今日のデザイン業界は、大手ブランドやカタログ写真だけで成り立っているわけではありません。むしろ、強い美学と信念を持った小規模スタジオが、オリジナルな視点でトレンドをつくり出しています。そこでは伝統的な職人技が現代の感性と融合し、新たな素材への挑戦や既成概念への挑戦が日々行われています。
私たちは、ミニマルな日本の木工所から、北欧のコレクティブ、再生材と3Dプリント技術を融合するブルックリンのデザイナーまで、世界中の多様なスタジオを紹介しています。彼らに共通するのは、「プロセスへの敬意」です。
ロンドンのある工房では、椅子が一本一本、蒸気曲げ加工によって手作業で形づくられていました。バルセロナのデザイナーは、眼鏡工場で余った光学用アセテートをテーブルトップに再利用することで、素材に新たな命を吹き込んでいました。ロサンゼルスでは、古い家具のパーツを再構築し、モジュール型シェルフへと再生するプロジェクトが進行中です。
私たちは、家具の未来は形状だけでなく「ストーリー」にあると考えています。Studio Spotlight は、単なる舞台裏紹介ではなく、「なぜつくるのか」という意図に光を当てる特集です。製作の現場を見ることで、最終製品への理解と共感が深まります。
